Hi, My name is Hannah and I run Spektrum K9 in Leigh-On-Sea, Essex. I am a student
member of the APDT which means I follow the "Kind, fair and affective" code of conduct
and only train using positive reward based training. I am also studying to be a
TTouch practitioner. TTouch is a method of looking how the posture of the dog can
affect the behaviour and how we can influence the posture using the nervous system
through a series of touches, body wraps and ground work. I also work closely with
the Xtradog team selling ethical equipment for dogs (the most common being the 2
point of contact harness) and I can often be found spending my weekends working with
them at dog shows around the country.
I have two Samoyeds who have taken part in many activities including showing (both
showed at crufts), obedience, agility, various sledding activities (e.g. bike joring)
and more recently one of my Samoyeds has appeared on various TV programmes. BBC's
over the rainbow auditioning at Lord Andrew Lloyd Webbers house for the part of Toto,
Blue Peter and Bang goes the theory where he learnt to recognise quantities and was
named Bang's most intelligent dog!

I have owned and trained dogs for many years under a number of teachers and coaches
using many different methods of training. I have participated in rally obedience,
flyball, agility, search and rescue and gundog work and am always looking to try
out new dog activities whenever the opportunity arises. I am a committed clicker
trainer but also use the lure and reward method in some of the classes.
I gained a Bsc (Hons) Degree in Canine Behaviour and Training after 5 years study.
In addition to this I am an assessed member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers
(APDT) & hold a CAP 2 Clicker Trainers certificate with distinction. The most recent
addition to my achievements is accreditation as a Certified Training Partner with
the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA-CTP). This was an exciting time with a combination
of 6 months online learning, videoing the training of her own dog for the period
and spending 10 days in the USA with renowned Terry Ryan for an intensive practical
training & teaching assessment camp with a borrowed dog, Nanu, a standard poodle.
I will be one of the few certified KPA trainers in the UK.
The course has enabled me to learn the most scientific and effective methods available.
These are fun, non-aversive and extremely effective. I am regularly updating my
training skills, undertaking courses at Learning
About Dogs and attending seminars held by some of the world’s most prestigious dog
trainers and behaviourists.
September 2015 I achieved the level 1 TAGteach teacher accreditation. This is an
amazing teaching method that will be incorporated into classes.
Professional development has also included specific courses related to puppy training
including a week long course with Helen Zulch to study the most up to date life skills
training for puppies. Helen leads the team who
have researched and developed this programme. I also a graduated from The Karen
Pryor Academy Puppy Start Right Course and have now updated the young puppy course
to reflect these new skills.
I am a provisional membership of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC)
This means having gained the relevant academic qualifications I am gaining the practical
experience necessary for full membership to enable me to assist owners with specific
behaviour problems. I am an Animal Behaviour & Training Council (ABTC) Registered
Kerstin was among the first 14 in the UK to attain a BSc (Hons) in Canine Behaviour

The aim of Dogucation is to provide a professional, effective, positive and scientifically
sound service for all dogs and their owners in the area, together with a friendly
and fun atmosphere.
Come and join Kerstin, Daren & Mary for learning, fun, a cup of coffee and maybe
a treat or two!
Kerstin is a committee member of Anglian Bikejor & Scooter and successfully competes
in the sport.
I completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling at
the University of Southampton in 2006. This 4 year course covers learning theory
and application, ethology, neurophysiology, psychology, welfare and ethics. It also
gives the opportunity to apply the theory to practical case studies. This is the
only course, at this advanced level, which is specific to the behaviour counselling
I completed my M.Sc. in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling at the same university
in 2010. I am a member of the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and the APBC
(Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors).
I live in a multi animal household with 1 cat, 13 dogs (11 of them from rescue),
rabbits and guinea pigs. I have had an interest in horses for many years. I have
run a tortoise sanctuary for over 20 years and deliver workshops and lectures to
tortoise owners and veterinary professionals.
I have written articles and other materials on dog behaviour and psychology. I have
delivered presentations to veterinary staff and dog owners with regard to dog and
cat behaviour and firework phobias.
I have run dog training classes for over 15 years and have been involved in developing
courses for others in this field. I have an interest in agility, Rally-Obedience
and the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme. I work with my dogs in the Pets as Therapy
(PAT dogs) field, visiting old age people’s homes, and am a PAT dog assessor. I visit
schools with my dogs helping to teach children how to stay safe around dogs. I am
also a DogAid trainer, working with disabled adults who would like to train their
own dogs as assistance dogs.
I am the practice behaviourist for Black Notley Vets and work as a behaviourist
and trainer for the local branch of a well- known national rescue organisation. I
have been involved in assessing dogs and writing reports for solicitors working on
legal cases and fro social services. I take veterinary behaviour referrals from
all over the East of England.
In 2006 I took a team of dogs to Crufts to demonstrate the Good Citizen Scheme, and
in 2011 demonstrated Rally-O at the London Pet Show at Olympia In 2011 I launched
Agility-O, a new dog sport which combines agility with rally obedience.
In 2011 I became a Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Affiliated Dog Trainer. I am
only the third Victoria Stilwell approved dog trainer in Britain, and the only one
living and working in the south of England.
I am committed to training using reward-based training, which has a basis in science,
rather than traditional methods using punishing techniques. I train owners to enjoy
their dogs and dogs to enjoy their owners by building a strong, positive bond between
them. This is the reason I was a founder of Positive Essex Dog Trainers. I want to
help owners in Essex to train their dogs in a kind, fair way to the enjoyment and
benefit of both.
